Overview of the Civil 3D for Beginners Course

Get Started: Level 1

In this Online Civil 3D training course for beginners.  participants will learn the basics of Civil 3D. , the civil engineering version of AutoCAD.  This course is a shorter and less advanced version of the Civil 3D Essentials Course.

In general, a user can complete the Civil 3D Level 1 course within an average of 10 to 20 hours.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LEVEL 1 AND LEVEL 1

  • The Civil 3D Level has about twice as much content as Level 1
  • Students completing Level 2 have the opportunity of earning a completion certificate.
  •  Students in Level 1 can submit questions to the instructor through the online discussion board.

TARGET USERS

This course is primarily for new users who do not have prior knowledge of Civil 3D.

CIVIL 3D TRAINING MANUAL

The course material includes the Civil 3D Essentials course printable eBook and a complete set of practice files. In addition, the course is continually updated to include the latest software versions, new workflows, news, and more.

Participants can obtain a completion certificate for PDH (Professional Development Hours) purposes. However, they need to complete an evaluation test, with a 70% passing grade.

The certification test can be taken online, as many times as needed, as long as the user account is active.

CIVIL 3D vs AUTOCAD

AutoCAD is Autodesk‘s flagship software for computer-aided drafting and design (CADD).  Professionals in engineering, architecture, construction, and surveying use CADD extensively. Indeed, CADD allows them to efficiently create electronic drawings, plans, calculations, and illustrations.

Civil 3D is the AutoCAD vertical product for the civil engineering industry.

HOW TO GET CIVIL 3D

To get the AutoCAD Civil 3D software Autodesk offers several options.

The easiest way to obtain the software for the Civil 3D course is to contact an Autodesk Partner like Infratech Civil.

A second option is to directly purchase a subscription through the Autodesk Subscription Centre.  Once there, you have to subscribe on a monthly or annual term. A monthly subscription is a great option for people sporadic needs. For more stable users the three-year subscription option is probably a better option.

A third option if available to qualified students. They can request an educational version of the software. While the free student version comes as a full fledge version they should be aware that every drawing opened with a student version of the software will print with an AutoDesk watermark.

Finally, another great option is to download a free Civil 3D 30-day trial version. This is a great option for people not familiar with the software and wishes to try it out. The free Civil 3D download is also a great option for people taking this Civil 3D course.

So far OKay

Christine Mayo

The explanation was good and the presentation was excellent. However, it would be better if the course can be simplified and divided into survey, surface design, and other separate courses. Overall it is an great course.

Thorough course

Fouad E.

Overall, the course is fairly thorough. As a more experienced user, I would have preferred to hear more on best practices, new functionalities of the new versions, vs older ones, etc. However, I think it fits the needs for the targeted audience.

Great course

Patrick Butler

Very interesting and easy to understand. Since I already have some experience, was good to see how to design using different methods. Definitely further my knowledge even more. Can't wait to take more advanced courses. Thank you!
