Civil 3D Pipe Rules: A step by step tutorial guide

Introduction to Civil 3D Pipe Rules

Firstly, what is a Civil 3D Pipe Rules? Well, let's find out in this online training course. Certainly, this step by step tutorial is a part of the Civil 3D essentials book and how-to manuals.

Working with Civil 3D Pipe Rules

We can now start laying out the system and adjust as needed. Before we do that, we have one more "table set up” item we need to take care of: the pipe network Pipe rules. Pipe rules allow us to establish some basic criteria that must always be met during the layout of the pipe network. Examples of pipe rules can include the minimum or maximum pipe slope, minimum cover, minimum or maximum pipe length, etc.

  1. From the Settings tab of the Toolspace, browse to the Pipe category, then open the Pipe Rule Set item. We currently only have one rule set, Standard. Let's use it and customize it to our needs. Select it, right-click and Edit.

  2. In the Pipe Rule Set window, enter the values for Minimum and Maximum SlopesMinimum and MaximumCover, MinimumandMaximumlength. Note that you can make the maximum slope a little higher if you are dealing with very steep grounds. Before clicking OK to close the Pipe Rule Set window, notice that you can also create or delete rules here.
